Ticking boxes here is for working through the list on screen — it is not saved anywhere, and it is not carried into the printed or downloaded copy, which always comes out blank.

Records and returns

A prompt to check, not advice on what applies to you. Thresholds, registrations and entitlements differ by state and establishment type — confirm each against the applicable statute.

Indian labour compliance is a set of state-level obligations more than a national one. Registrations, professional tax, labour welfare fund and leave entitlements all differ state by state, and having employees in a state is what creates the obligation — not being headquartered there.

Thresholds also change what applies: ten employees for POSH, twenty for provident fund, fifty for a creche. Set your headcount and the list adjusts.

Frequently asked questions

What are the main labour law compliances for an Indian company?
Registration under each state's Shops and Establishments Act, provident fund and ESI where the thresholds are met, professional tax and labour welfare fund in the states that levy them, minimum wages and wage slips under the Code on Wages, a POSH committee at ten or more employees, and the registers and returns each statute requires.
At what headcount does POSH apply?
The obligation to constitute an Internal Committee starts at ten employees. The Act itself applies regardless — below ten, complaints go to the district's Local Committee.
Do I need to register in every state where I have employees?
Generally yes. Shops and Establishments registration, professional tax and labour welfare fund all follow the state where employees work, not where the company is incorporated.
